Dear Parents:
The word “liturgy” means work! This work is the participation of all those who come to worship at the Divine Liturgy.
Encourage your children to participate in this work of worship. Hold or place your children where they can see what’s going on. Point out the censing and smoke, the icons, the candles, the singing and the entrances to keep their attention on worship. Whisper to name things and explain this holy environment to your child, with you as a guide in prayer and worship. Don’t allow your children to roam, children need to show proper respect for the house of God so explain and illustrate proper behavior and attitude by example. Remind them to make the sign of the cross and bow, stand or kneel, when it’s appropriate – don’t forget to praise them when they do! If they ask a question you don’t know, tell them you’ll ask Father John, and ask him at coffee hour or email it to him at frjm.stnicholas@cox.net In no time at all, they’ll be singing, saying Our Father and following along during the service in the Liturgy book. For the parent, this is when the work of teaching the Faith begins!

Families will worship together during the Divine Liturgy and the children will be dismissed after Holy Communion to their Christian Education classes.

This year our classes will begin on Sunday, September 7, 2014. We’ve changed from individual grade level classes to groups as follows:
Group 1 - 3 and 4 year olds (must be potty trained), Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students under the direction of Jenn Tzavaras
Group 2 - 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students under the direction of Sarah Manuel and Cynthia Housianitis
Group 3 - 7th through 12th grade students under the direction of Danny Cook

We will be using the curriculum materials from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Department of Religious Education.
Please plan to stay for a brunch hosted by the FROGMEN on September 7th as we begin our new year together.
